Collaborative Art of Daniel and Tess LaPlante |
There will shortly be posted here photos of our collaborative paintings. What began as a simple question “Daniel…can you please paint over my painting?, I don’t like how it turned out…” was the beginning of what is quickly becoming a fascinating and rewarding journey into combining our two very different artistic styles on one canvas. It is amazing where the asking of one simple question will lead you! The finished product is the combination of both of us in very powerful ways. Daniel is the grounding, cohesive foundation, strength, and structure to my more ethereal tendencies, flow, and colors. Two styles, one canvas….
Two hearts, one beat. |

Daniel LaPlante is new to the Baltimore area. A self-taught artist from South Dakota , Daniel's creative expression has no boundaries. In continual transformation, he is always looking for what the next piece of artwork will bring.
“ Art is mysterious and personal and a gift from a greater power. It's ability to touch people's lives is a mystery and a blessing. There are some times when I cannot paint at all and there are other times when it just flows. I don't necessarily incorporate Native culture into my art on purpose but I do love my Lakota culture and believe many things are sacred and therefore are not always part of public art. My latest creations have been birthed from my new relationship with my wife Tess who is the love of my life and the source of my newfound inspiration. In our collaborative work the blend of two contrasting styles comes together as a beautiful creation. I look forward to what the future holds for my art .”
Daniel is a Sans Arc Lakota from South Dakota and a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. He is an artist, writer, veteran of the military, a student of religions, and a conference speaker on cultural religious issues. Daniel is a Northern style traditional dancer who has been on an international dance team and has led his own dance teams to the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and to Australia .
Daniel is available for speaking engagements on Native Culture and personal dance exhibitions.
